Doing the research – booking the trip

Traveling is an important part of life for us. It gives us an endless collection of memories and lasting experiences. It is something that makes us feel alive. Traveling increases our knowledge about the world and the people around the world.

Chad is the trip planner in our family and he always does a super job of it. He enjoys the research and challenge of making sure we do not miss out on anything the destination has to offer.

However, our Germany trip has been put in my hands. I realised planning a trip can be an intimidating task. Where do you begin? What is step one? It is easy to get overwhelmed in the beginning, especially when you have not done something like this before.

After endless browsing, I eventually found what I thought was the most affordable booking sites for this trip.

I booked our flights on KLM, as they had the shortest layovers and lowest prices for our dates.

For the trains, I was in two minds; either getting us rail passes or single journey tickets. After looking into the differences between the two and the costs, I went with the single journey tickets on DB Bahn. We spent about £40 per journey on the ICE for both of us.

As we will be in Munich for Oktoberfest, we have left finding really economical accommodation rather late. But I was able to find a room at Hotel Italia on Hotelworld.com a few minutes walk to Theresienwiese.

Hostelworld.com will expand your idea of what a hostel can be. You will find smaller, inexpensive and independent hotels will list rooms on Hostelworld even if they have a website and market themselves as a hotel or bed & breakfast. You can search for rooms nearly anywhere in the world. Most hostels have private bedrooms, some with private bathrooms and some with shared bathrooms, location (they have a handy map view), price and more. You pay a 10% deposit when you book and the rest when you check in.

In Frankfurt, we will be staying at the Novum Hotel Primus which I booked on lastminute.com

lastminute.com is a rising star in the online travel booking world. They are one of the top sources from flights, accommodation, spas and entertainment in Europe (they do offer hotels in several other parts of the world). lastminute.com ‘s strength is their extensive availability; you can find a variety of low-cost and last minute deals.

After all the major bookings have been confirmed you feel a sense of relief but even more excitement that it is happening.
